They Said It Couldn’t Be Done.
Folks said we were crazy…
No one thought it was possible…
And those folks are not allowed back on our boat.
It’s been a full year since we launched No Coast Social Club to the world. We’ve learned a lot, as most small businesses do, in a short period of time, and definitely made some mistakes. Like forgetting to finish a setting on the website, so we couldn’t sell outside of Iowa… (DANGITMATT is still my favorite discount code.) But this isn’t about us, it’s about all of us.
Mason and I started this to bring awareness to the plight of our watersheds. There are dozens of brands that focus on the Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, beaches, and seas around the world. And they are all great causes and deserve the attention and focus they get. But the flyover states also need the attention of not only the public at large, but also governments and corporations that are intertwined in our environment.
Over the past year, we went from two guys on a boat with too much time on our hands to two guys with not enough time on our hands. And loving every minute of it.
We’ve been able to donate over $500.00 through July 2025, and we’re just getting started. The release of This Shirt Saves Rivers has been great, and our collaboration with Living Lands & Waters ensures that $10 of every shirt goes to their continued clean-up efforts in the Mississippi River basin. And all Solar Shirt proceeds allowed us to donate to Coralville Lake Foundation, our home water that is impaired by silt, sediment, and bacterial issues from low turbidity.
And we’re just getting started.
The blog will get updated more regularly over the next few months. We’re setting up some interviews with different folks to share more perspectives on life on the water and how it’s being affected and changed by environmental factors, legislation, commercial growth, and climate change.
